Rohatsu at Bird Haven Zendo

At Rohatsu we commemorate Shakyamuni Buddha's many days of sitting under the Bodhi tree, culminating in the awakening he experienced at the sight of the morning star arising in the predawn hours of the third watch of the night.  At that moment he exclaimed, “I was, am and will be enlightened, together with the whole of the great Earth and all its sentient beings, simultaneously!”

Rohatsu sesshin is traditionally held around December 8.  This year at Bird Haven Zendo we will begin at 1:30 pm on Sunday, December 3, and conclude with our regular monthly One-Day Sitting from 8:30 to 5:00 on Saturday, December 9.

Each day Tuesday through Friday will be divided into four periods:
1. Early Morning, 6:30-7:20; concludes with Morning Service
2. Morning, 9:00-12:05; concludes with Mid-Day Service
3. Afternoon, 1:30-5:05; concludes with Evening Service
4. Evening, 7:00-8:40; concludes with Pali Refuges

Meals and rest breaks will follow services.  There will be opportunities for Practice Discussion with Kenshin or Yudo each day.  Overnight accomodations will be available.

Our goal is to make participation as accessible as possible.  We recognize that not everyone can attend all days and many may not be able to attend a full day's schedule at any time, so participants may register for the particular periods and days Sunday through Friday that fit their needs.  Saturday registration will be for the full day from 8:30 to 5:00 as usual.

The registration period is November 12-29.

Like all activities at Bird Haven Zendo. Rohatsu Sesshin is offered entirely on a dana basis.
